Another Hero of a Generation
Thursday, Nov. 04, 2004
The man whose family was burned and chased out of his home when he was a boy, and who spent his lifetime trying to get the world to pay him back, has died without seeing the fruits of his life's labors.
Can you imagine? Dedicating your entire life to one single cause: the return of your people. Trying everything up to and including sponsoring terrorist acts and winning a Nobel Peace Prize, and still dying without resolution?
How tormented you would be until your dying breath? How excruciating the decision to finally give in to the fatigue of it all?
He was one of the bravest men this world has had the honor to host. May the memory of his work last a hundred times more lifetimes than his own. And may we not rest until his soul is at peace.
A nation mourns for its leader in the rubble of what is theirs in their hearts but not in our atlas. Keep them close to your thoughts today. They have all lost their father.
And given the outcome of our election this time around, they are in for an infinite amount of further suffering before anything resembling Yassir's dream can be close to reality.
This is a truly sad day.
In'sh'Allah.
